Prep for Airbrush Tan
~For Competition Tanning, Follow the Jan Tana Instructions: http://jantana.com/index.php/how-to-tan/ ~
Exfoliate in Shower everyday for 4 to 7 days prior to appointment
– VERY IMPORTANT STEP – BE THOROUGH!
Use a washcloth, loufa, or handmitt to gently scrub entire body (don’t forget the backside!)
Use a mild bodywash. An alternative would be baking soda. Do not use soap or other bodywashes that leave residue.
I highly recommend using Jan Tana Skin Prep. Arrange acquring this product from me at time of scheduling.
Moisturize everyday for 4-7 days prior to appointmen
Moisturize after showering. I highly recommend using Jan Tana Moisturizer. Arrange acquring this product from me at time of scheduling.
On Day of Tan
Shower and exfoliate - the same routine as the past 4-7 days
Do not moisturize! (no lotions, deoderant, sprays, perfume)
You can moisturize nails, palms, bottom of feet, and lightly on the knees and elbows only. This will keep these areas from getting dark.
What areas are you Tanning?
Entire Body
If you are tanning your entire body and face with a swimsuit on, come wearing it underneath your clothing. The swimsuit should be of dark color to avoid staining, preferably black. I have no problem tanning people in the nude.
Legs
If you are tanning just your legs, come wearing a bottom that will give you the outline that you want.
Men
Men, you may want to consider briefs or boxer briefs as an alternative to swimshorts (unless you own a speedo – even better!)
Jewelry
Please remove any jewelry from the areas you are tanning, reasonably speaking.
Hair
Tie hair back and up from body. Do not have any loose bangs hanging over face.
Shaving
Please shave the usual areas that you prefer the day before your appointment.
Clothing
After your tan, you will need to put clothes on that are LOOSE fitting and DARK to avoid product wear-off. Wear flip-flops, sandals, or loose shoes afterwards. Come dressed this way if you can too.
How long will it take?
Depending on the individual's needs, it can take from 20-40 minutes. Plan for an hour appointment from start to finish.
Caring for your Tan
Clothing
Wear loose clothing for 6-8 hours. Do not wear items that rub or squeeze on your tanned skin.
Do not get wet!
Do not sweat or shower or come close to water for at least 8 hours. It’s ok to have it on overnight and shower the next day, but you may want to lay some dark sheets or towels down.
Showering after 8-12 hours
Your first shower will be washing away the color in the tan so don’t be surprised if you see color running down the drain.
Do not exfoliate, or perform rough scrubbing on your skin. It will lighten your tan.
Use a moisturizing bodywash to keep skin hydrated.
Do not spend long periods of time in the shower. You skin will start to exfoliate, removing more dead layers of your skin, fading the tan.
Pat dry your skin, don’t rub.
The color you see now is not a dye stain, it is an interaction between our dead skin layer and the substance DHA (a natural substance found in sugar canes)
MOISTURIZE!
Moisturize after showering. I highly recommend using Jan Tana Moisturizer. Arrange acquring this product from me at the appointment.
Avoid Dove product, mineral oil, glycolic acid, and AHA. These can fade your tan.
Oily skin will hold tan longer than dry skin. So if you have dry skin, you will have to work harder at keeping your skin hydrated.
Caring for your tan is going to determine how long your tan lasts.
The range is 7-10 days.
Enjoy your Luscious Tan!
